I Am My Sister's Keeper (IAMSK) aims to alleviate stressors preventing single mothers from becoming successful.Â
What we're doing has brought positive changes! We aim to serve more single moms through our current programs while ensuring the sustainability and enhancement of our services. Our goal is to see more single moms:
Move towards economic security through financial literacy, saving, and career advancement (our moms have already reported a 40% increase in financial literacy).
Obtain and maintain safe and affordable housing (we have already helped five families secure stable housing).
Secure affordable and reliable transportation (three moms have purchased vehicles, easing Memphis' transportation challenges).
Enroll in college and further their education (four moms are currently enrolled).
Have dependable and affordable childcare that supports their success.
Advance professionally and personally through our new Journey to Sisterhood model, which provides structured support and development opportunities.
To date, we have helped change the lives of five families by assisting them in securing safe and affordable housing. Four of our moms have enrolled in college, and three have purchased a new vehicle, significantly easing transportation challenges in Memphis, a car-centric city with limited public transit options. Additionally, many of our moms have sought or are actively engaged in mental health treatment and support.
We continue to bring ease to single moms' lives daily through our learning sessions, childcare, pantry, and accountability sessions. Our moms have reported a 40% increase in financial literacy, a 50% improvement in emotional well-being, and a 35% rise in stable housing retention. Moreover, we have provided over 16,400 diapers, 15,000 period products, and 1,500 meals to date.
In addition, our efforts have contributed to economic security, helping moms save and build financial stability. We took a necessary pause to restructure our programming, introducing the "Journey to Sisterhood" model to ensure single moms have the tools needed for long-term success. Through strengthened partnerships and tailored programming, IAMSK is positioned to expand its impact in 2025, empowering even more single mothers in Shelby County.
