DID YOU KNOW

• 80.5% of single-parent households are headed by single mothers
• Memphis is ranked number 13 in the country in its percentage of single mother-led households
• 37% of single mothers' households live in poverty
•  A two-bedroom apartment in Memphis requires an annual income of $45,080
• Nationally the annual cost of center-based infant care averaged over 40% of the state median income for a single mother and 32% for a school-age child
• 30% of single moms have reported symptoms of anxiety and depression

For these reasons and many others, IAMSK exists. These reasons are also why it is important for IAMSK to widen its reach. As a part of that widened reach, today begins our formal partnership with Shelby County Youth and Family Resource Center! Beginning next Tuesday (February 7th), IAMSK will hold office hours at 3157 Powers Drive from 12-4 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. During these hours, we will provide information, resources, and a few pantry items. We will also hold Mommy Meet-ups on two Tuesday evenings each month. These Meet-ups will serve as a safe space for single moms in the community to come together to talk, laugh (maybe even cry), and learn from each other.

As a way for YOU to help us widen our reach, we are offering a few volunteer opportunities. As you may or may not know, we have one outing each month for our moms and we like to feed them at these outings. This is where YOU come in! We would be so grateful if you all could prepare AND/OR send food items for our moms for these outings. There are about 20 of us and the dates are as follows;

March (TBD)-Horseback Riding
May 7-Mother's Day Outdoor Social
June 18-Safari Park
July 15-Axe Throwing
August 19-Game Night
September 16-Paint and Sip.

Additionally, we would love it if YOU all sent in affirmation cards. You know, things like "you're doing great", "this world needs you", etc. Please feel free to make or purchase cards and include your own personalized message. We will distribute them to moms in our village (for birthdays, holidays, etc) as well as to moms we encounter at community events.
