Greetings, Keepers! Happy New Year! **Click here to watch our 2023 Promo Video** 2022 was a doozy, wasn't it?! There was adversity followed by triumph, loss followed by gain, and sadness followed by joy. Whew! Through it all, we are still standing tall (ish) and we are definitely ready to turn the page. This year, these weekly blogs will be my responsibility. Those of you who know me (IRL or online) know that I am a person of great transparency. It may make some uncomfortable but I truly believe that we overcome by our testimony so there will be much of that. 😉 That said, we are still without a home for our organization, our Brunch has to be rescheduled (March 12, 2023, from 12-2 is the new date so don't forget!) due to a last-minute lack of location, and we need money to continue providing our moms with the resources they need and to pay salaries, etc, etc. That sounds like a lot, huh? It is! However, we remain steadfast in our mission "to alleviate many of the stressors which prevent single mothers from becoming successful". We are in talks with some other area organizations regarding potential office space AND a new Brunch location, we have been blessed with grant writing assistance (praise break!), and we have YOU! Sounds like we'll be fine, doesn't it? Because we will be! I cannot promise that the weekly blogs will always be this brief so be grateful for this one. Lol. But seriously. 😁 We appreciate YOU for all that you have done and all that you will do. This update will be brief as well. Our Founding Keeper needs more downtime than she realized. She will still be returning emails, texts, and/or calls as she is able. Please be patient. Also, please send prayers and/or positive vibes her way. That said, our Second Annual Christmas Party/Sleepover was a huge success! Moms exchanged gifts, ate food, played games, and had a great time just being together. One of the reasons our FK is still tired, I'm sure. :) Please mark your calendars for our FOURTH Annual Fundraising Brunch w/a TWIST! It will be held on January 15 at Porter-Leath 3060 Baskin Street from 12-2. Tickets are $50. DJ Spaceage will be on the 1s and 2s, Golden Pineapple Charcuterie will be catering and decorating, and there will be opportunities to network and learn more about IAMSK. It's gonna be a time! Please accept our apologies for missing last week’s email. Unfortunately, we recently experienced a series of events that resulted in the decision to leave our current office space. Our shared office space was no longer a safe environment for our organization and those we serve. Because of this, we are currently operating out of my home (again) and storage space. Please send prayers and positive vibes our way as we search for our next location. If you are able to offer a helping hand as we transition, whether through in-kind support or a generous donation, please know we are grateful. This week’s message is two-fold. It serves as our weekly blog providing you with updates AND it is a request for your support on #GivingTuesday. I know, I know Tuesday is tomorrow, but as you sit down tomorrow to make your #GivingTuesday donations, we ask that you keep IAMSK in mind. Single mothers need people like you every day. Our services make a difference in the lives of these mothers and it is only made possible through your kind donations. Good Afternoon, Keeper! Our 3rd Annual Fall-Thru was a HUGE success! We had an awesome time over at Ed Rice Community Center. The weather was amazing and we met some new people who had heard about us through Facebook! ***A word from our Founding Keeper*** Y'all! The people really support I Am My Sister's Keeper! My heart is so FULL right now! I want to give a special thanks to our board (Roslyn Postlewaite, Brenda Cowan, Wendolyn Byrd, Deirdra Royston) and my family. They truly are the REAL MVPs! Always. They hold a Keeper up like you wouldn't believe. To our social media guru, Lillian Drew, you know what a blessing you are to us! I tell you often. Good Afternoon, Keeper! Hey, Y'all! We hope each and every one of you are having an AWESOME Wednesday! Our Fall-Thru is 18 days away and we are soooo excited! If you or someone you know is interested in being a vendor at this event, please reach out as soon as possible! We had a BLAST this past weekend! Not only did we celebrate our Founding Keeper's birthday, but we also attended TWO community events on the SAME day. The first event we attended was the Community Baby Shower hosted by Amerigroup at the Porter-Leath Children's Center in Orange Mound. We had such a good time mingling with other organizations in the area and being able to meet and connect with many of the single moms that came out. After the Community Baby Shower, we attended the Grand Opening at Oasis of Hope! There was food, games, AND bingo! We had a great time celebrating this milestone for OOH. Our Mental Health Retreat starts THIS Friday! We are so excited to be able to host this event for our moms. We have many presenters who are excited to be able to teach our moms some tips and tricks on keeping our Mental Health stable as we are on this journey of Motherhood. We are still accepting donations! This was a lot but we just want to keep you in the loop!
